Daughter of Nations - The Completed Drawing

Image
Daughter of Nations I feel incredibly blessed and humbled to finally share this piece with you all. For me, an artwork truly begins long before the pencil touches the paper. It begins with a connection that centers the narrative. For months, I was totally focused on the technical side of Daughter of Nations . I spent all my time trying to get the folds of her headwrap exactly right, the weight of the beads perfect and her eyes perfectly balanced. I convinced myself I was just working on my technique and getting the details right.  As I finished the last few touches and getting the Gelé (head wrap) just right and adding those glows that popped against her skin, the drawing finally hit different. It felt like she was actually looking right at me. It was then that I realized that this work was never truly about representation but was actually about Remembrance. Beyond the Veil of Identity You need to understand that she does not stand as a political statement, nor does she ex...

My Evolution into Storytelling Art

Image
The Literary Awakening For a long time, my hands have been guided by the pursuit of aesthetic perfection, the harmony of light, shadow and form.  Though my formal discipline was rooted in English and Literary Studies , my final year became a crucible for a deeper transformation. It was then that my language lecturer, Dr. Oriola, saw a potential in my art that exceeded the boundaries of my academic path. She challenged me to look beyond the surface of aesthetic beauty and instead interrogate the essence of existence. I began to realize that the narratives I once sought in literature were waiting to be 'written' through my hands and not only with ink, but through the deliberate language of my pencils. Meaning with Consequence Guided by the concept of ' pragmatic imports ,' I shifted my focus from art as a static image to art as a living dialogue . Dr. Oriola made me realize that true art possesses a life of its own; it carries a pulse that can be traced back to it...

Daughter of Nations – Progress report and the Story so far

Image
In the world of hyper-realism , every detail of the pencil is a search for essence. For me, an artwork truly begins long before the pencil touches the paper; it begins with a pull, a spiritual gravity that centers the narrative. For my piece, Daughter of Nations , that gravity was found in the presence of my muse. I have often said that beauty alone is a shallow vessel; it cannot carry the weight of a universal truth. What drew me to muse was something far more profound: a quiet, sacred harmony etched into the very architecture of her face. The Sacred Balance In my muse, I saw a convergence of worlds. Her features do not fight for dominance; they sit in a rare, effortless equilibrium. There is this delicate structure of her Asian heritage, paired with a nose that whispers of African ancestry, all wrapped in a skin tone shaped by the sun, the sea, and the long arc of human migration. To look at her is to look at the history of the Philippines itself, a land that has served as a sacred ...

Daughter of Nations

Image
Work in progress...      There are moments in an artist’s journey when a single idea refuses to let go. It grows quietly in the background until one day it steps forward and says, “It’s time!” “Daughter of Nations” came to me exactly like that. Frankly, it was not as a drawing or as a concept for an exhibition, but as a genuine revelation. The Revelation of the Face. The inspiration began with a simple observation that the human face carries the entire story of our species. Across continents, through climates and human migrations, our features like the eyes, skin, hair texture and bone structure have shifted, blended and brilliantly adapted. Yet, beneath every single variation lies one undeniable, beautiful truth that "we all come from the same beginning." For over a century now, scientific research has pointed us back to Africa as the cradle of humanity. We have the evidence of fossil records, such as the Homo sapiens remains found at Omo Kibish in Ethiopia , dated ...

Mother of Mankind - The Completed Drawing

Image
Awakening Series:  A Tapestry of Art, Science, and Humanity. I've finished my drawing, "Mother of Mankind," and it feels like a big accomplishment. Looking at it, I feel a mix of excitement and sadness. This piece has been a long journey, much like human history itself. In the drawing, a calm woman holds the Earth, with Africa at its heart. The shading on her skin shows our diverse heritage, and the highlights represent the strength of our ancestors. It's more than just art; it's a message about looking past our differences and seeing our shared history. Enriching Our Origins with Science Building on my earlier reflections, where I delved into Africa's role as humanity's cradle, this drawing brings my project on Africa as the cradle of humanity full circle, supported by a growing body of scientific evidence. Recent discoveries, like the ancient fossils found in Ethiopia's Ledi-Geraru region, show that early human species lived side-by-side more than 2....

Mother of Mankind - A Progress Update on the Journey

Image
As I sit in my studio, pencil in hand, watching the "Mother of Mankind" take shape layer by layer, I'm reminded of how art mirrors life...slow, deliberate and full of revelations that emerge only with time. This progress shot captures her midway through: the contours of her form are more defined now. The shading is building, casting subtle shadows that hint at the depth of our shared history, while faint outlines of migrating paths begin to weave across the globe in her grasp. I feel like it's not just a drawing anymore; it's now a living narrative at this point, evolving as I do on this Awakening journey. Each pencil detail feels like peeling back another layer of my own understanding, questioning where we come from and what binds us beyond the surface. The Cradle of Humanity In my previous reflection, I explored how Africa stands as the cradle of humanity, a truth that challenges the divisions we impose on one another today. As I continue this piece, that founda...

Mother of Mankind

Work in progress... "We are all born from the same place—the source of all humanity. Differences are adaptations, not divisions." I’m happy to share a sneak peek of my latest piece in the Awakening Series. This pencil sketch, still in progress, is already pulsing with meaning. In this piece, a figure holds the Earth tenderly, with Africa facing forward. Why? Because Africa is the cradle of humanity, the root of our shared journey. This isn’t about Black or White, it’s about Human. Our skin, our features, our differences are adaptations to the lands we wandered, not walls between us. This drawing is my way of challenging the very foundation of racism, reminding us that we all sprouted from the same soil. The Inspiration Behind the Art The title Mother of Mankind carries a weighty truth: Africa is where humanity began. Science tells us our story started there, some 200,000–300,000 years ago. Early humans evolved dark, melanin-rich skin to shield against the intense equatorial ...

The Lost Identity

Image
A Visual Awakening “Do we remember who we were before the world told us who to be?” This profound question that lies at the heart of The Lost Identity , the first piece in my new Awakening series. It is an invitation to confront the silence that often surrounds Africa’s stolen roots, repressed heritage and fragmented identity. In this artwork, I seek to awaken not just memories but the very essence of self. The Lost Identity KennyDanielArt   On this piece is an African woman, not adorned with traditional symbols of wealth or power but burdened with a crown of cracked earth. This crown, heavy and crumbling, symbolizes the lost kingdoms, the erasure of thriving pre-colonial civilizations and the generations of Africans who have been taught to forget their true identities. The cracked earth represents more than physical dryness; it signifies a spiritual severance from the land and heritage. She sits on a wooden chair, worn with time, its surface splintered and scarred, much like the b...

I Am the Awakened Artist: Unveiling Truth Through Art

Image
Hi, this is KennyDanielArt. I’m an artist , a son of the soil, and a storyteller with a pencil in hand. I am Kehinde Daniel Ojo to my parents, but call me  Kenny . My art is more than pencil on paper; it’s a journey to uncover truths the world has overlooked, a way to pull back centuries of silence and let Africa’s stories breathe again. Welcome to The Awakened Artist , my blog, where I’m stepping into my calling to draw not just faces, but origins like our identity, our pride and our roots. A glimpse into the past through the lens of history Pencil on paper 2017 This isn’t just a gallery. It’s a resurrection of stories buried in texture, symbolism and soul. Let’s walk this path together. Why This Blog? For too long, the narratives of Africa have been shaped by outsiders who haven’t lived our struggles, joys, or triumphs. As an artist, I’ve drawn countless faces, capturing beauty in every line. But beauty alone isn’t enough anymore. I want my art to tell the truth, reclaim the s...
