My Evolution into Storytelling Art
The Literary Awakening
For a long time, my hands have been guided by the pursuit of aesthetic perfection, the harmony of light, shadow and form.
Though my formal discipline was rooted in English and Literary Studies, my final year became a crucible for a deeper transformation. It was then that my language lecturer, Dr. Oriola, saw a potential in my art that exceeded the boundaries of my academic path. She challenged me to look beyond the surface of aesthetic beauty and instead interrogate the essence of existence. I began to realize that the narratives I once sought in literature were waiting to be 'written' through my hands and not only with ink, but through the deliberate language of my pencils.
Meaning with Consequence
Guided by the concept of 'pragmatic imports,' I shifted my focus from art as a static image to art as a living dialogue. Dr. Oriola made me realize that true art possesses a life of its own; it carries a pulse that can be traced back to its creator, yet it is brave enough to live independently in the spaces of others. I no longer view a portrait as a mere likeness but as meaning with consequence.
The Journey of the Mark
Every mark I make now is a deliberate act of truth-telling. This transition has transformed my process into a meditative journey of story telling. And my training in language and literature has give me the eyes to see these stories. I have learned to offer my work to the world with a sense of a selfless bravery, understanding that when art is born from a place of technical mastery and emotional depth, it finds its own home. I am no longer just sketching a face but documenting the history of souls. My path from the literary to the visual has taught me that the most profound 'texts' are those written in the shadows and light of a human spirit. My art is no longer a static reflection but a living entity that breathes in the spaces it occupies.
As I continue this journey, I remain committed to the "Essence" of finding the story beneath just the surface and ensuring that every piece I create serves as a bridge between my spirit and yours.
